An update on your Vested account type

Over the coming weeks, we’re moving all Vested accounts from cash accounts to zero-leverage margin accounts. New accounts completing KYC will open under this type too. Here’s what that actually means for you.

First, the reassurance.

“Margin” usually makes people think of borrowing and risk. This is not that. “Zero-leverage” means you still cannot borrow funds to trade, so it stays fully LRS-compliant. There’s no extra cost, and it adds no debt or risk. This is a change to how your account is classified, not how it works.

What the new account type unlocks:

  1. Unlimited day trading. In a cash account, how often you can buy and sell in a day is capped by how quickly your funds settle. The new account type removes that cap, so you can trade the same stock multiple times in a day.
  2. No good-faith violations. When you sell, the cash takes one business day to settle. In a cash account, using those unsettled funds to buy and then sell again can trigger a “good-faith violation,” and a few of these can restrict your account for up to 90 days. Margin accounts don’t carry this restriction.
  3. Faster access to buying power. After you sell in a cash account, you normally wait a business day for funds to settle before reusing them. A margin account gives you that buying power sooner, so your capital isn’t sitting idle.

What does NOT change:

  • Your app and account screens stay exactly the same. Nothing new to learn.
  • Deposits and withdrawals work exactly as before (these are “Margin Cash” accounts).
  • Your holdings and LRS compliance are unaffected.

What you’ll need to do: When it’s your account’s turn, you’ll see an Agree and Continue prompt on login. Tapping it accepts the Margin Risk Disclosure Statement alongside your existing DriveWealth disclosures. If you need more time, you can skip for now and we’ll remind you at your next login (you can defer a limited number of times).

When it happens: We’re rolling this out in phases. You’ll get an email with your conversion date once your account is in the next batch, usually processed on Fridays. One small note: on your conversion day you won’t be able to place extended-hours orders in the after-hours session or the next business day’s pre-market session. Regular trading is unaffected.
